May 25, 2010 Elaine Radulski was awarded her Godan, or 5th Degree Black Belt by Tsumura Shihan during the Yudansha Ranking or Black Belt Examinations held at the Canadian Honbu in Toronto, Ontario. Elaine has been studying Karatedo for the past 30 years with Lindsay Sensei.
"She was litterally dragged to Karate by a mutual friend for a little excersise, and has stuck with it since then, even though the friend has long since retired", Lindsay Sensei says of her long time student and good friend.

Lindsay Sensei receives Rokudan
October 10, 2009 marks the official presentation of Lindsay Sensei's 6th Degree Black Belt by Tsumura Shihan, at the Canada Honbu in Toronto, Ontario. The presentation was made during the Black Belt Ranking or grading at the Honbu. This makes Lindsay Sensei the highest ranked female Karateka in our style, not only here in Canada, but world wide.
Lindsay Sensei has been studying Shito Ryu Itosu Kai Karate and Kobudo from Tsumura Shihan since she was 17 years old, 30 some years ago (she would say how many for sure!). During that time she has studied in Meaford and Toronto, Ontario. In 1980 she moved to Inuvik NWT and started a dojo there. In 1988 she moved to Edmonton, Alberta where she joined the Manatisowin Dojo, and has been with us ever since.
Lindsay Sensei has literally travelled the world with Karate. She has represented Canada in all three of the Itosu Ryu Karatedo World Championships, 2002 Japan, 2005 U.S.A. and 2009 Malaysia. She has been invited by Tsumura Shihan to visit dojos around the world with him, including: Argentina, Ireland, and Italy. "It is always interesting to compare methodology and cultural influences on our style of Karate. We all have the same instructors, but sometimes time and distance makes little differences, good and bad, in how we practice. Sometimes we just have to giggle at each other's accents and pronounciations. But Itosu-Kai is a big world-wide family."
Congratulations Lindsay Sensei!

The I.K.I.F. tournament is held every 4 years, and is a huge International gathering of Itosu-Kai members from over 24 countries around the world. It was an excellent opportunity to renew old friendships and start new ones.
Radulski Sensei and Lindsay Sensei competed in the "Over 35 Ladies Black Belt" Kata division. Radulski Sensei missed the top eight by a very slim margin. Lindsay Sensei went on to round two, and finished in 6th place. Lindsay Sensei also competed in her Kumite division, taking home the Bronze metal.
